Konrad Zuse was the first person to create a programmable computer. He was also the first person known to have proposed the notion of digital physics; that the Universe itself is being calculated by a computer. This idea was proposed in his 1969 book Rechnender Raum (literally: space that is calculating). The English title is Calculating Space.
